Three main features of Shivaji’s political system:
- The king was the supreme head of the Maratha lands.
- He was assisted by a council of eight ministers known as ‘ashtapradhan’. These ministers looked after their own departments. They were accountable to the king.
- The ‘peshwa’ or the Prime Minister was the head of the council of eight ministers.
