Below you can find explanation for types of units: -
In physics units refers to the the standard by which we can measure the physical quantities.
There are two types of unit fundamental and derived units.
The units which can neither be derived from other units nor they can be further resolved into simpler units are called fundamental units.
The seven fundamental quantities and their units are as follows : -
Fundamental quantity | Unit |
Time | Second |
Length | metre |
Mass | kilogram |
Electric current | Ampere |
Temperature | Kelvin |
Amount of substance | mol |
Intensity | Candela |
Derived units are those which depend on the fundamental units or which can be expressed in terms of the fundamental units.
Example: speed, velocity, acceleration etc.
