Humayun succeeded to the Mughal throne which was not a bed of roses because he was surrounded by dangerous enemies on all sides. They were

  1. Humayun’s three hostile brothers - Askari, Hindal and Kamran. According to the wishes of his dying father, he treated all his brothers well. However, his brothers were constantly plotting against him.
  2. Sher Khan, an Afghan chief, was a rebellious and an ambitious ruler. He wanted to annex Delhi.
  3. Humayun also had to deal with Bahadur Shah - the ruler of Gujarat and Malwa. He was constantly plotting against Humayun as he himself wanted to become the emperor of Delhi.
