  1. There was the fusion of Persian, Arabic and Hindu style of architecture during the Sultanate period.
  2. This fusion resulted in the development of the Indo-Islamic style of architecture. Both temples and mosques had large open courtyards.
  3. Bricks began to be used extensively. Many local Indian craftsmen were trained in the Persian style of art. These craftsmen also applied their own style of architecture. Thus, many motifs like the lotus were carved in many Islamic buildings.
  4. Verses of the Quran were engraved on the walls of Islamic monuments. During the Tughlaq period, the buildings were plain and simple, while the Sayyids and the Lodis used lavish and decorative styles.
  5. Some important monuments of the Sultanate period were the Alai Darwaza, the tomb of Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq, Firoz Shah Kotla, fort of Tughlakabad and the tombs of the Lodi kings.
