CBSE Class 8 Answered
How is metamorphosis in tadpole delayed or
improper if iodine is insufficient?

Expert Answer
Iodine is an element of the thyroid hormone. The thyroid hormone is responsible for the control of metabolism and metamorphosis. If iodine is not available in the diet, then the thyroid may produce insufficient hormone which will affect the process of metamorphosis. So, if frog lays eggs in iodine-deficient water, then tadpoles hatched from these eggs will not grow into adult frogs.
