Sustentacular cells are columnar epithelial cells that support structures, also known as supporting cells. They can be found in many tissues, including olfactory epithelium, testicle, Organ of Corti, taste buds, etc.
Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) regulates sustentacular cells, including Sertoli cells. It regulates their proliferation during perinatal life and stimulates the production of Sertoli cell-derived factors required for the development of germ cells and testes.
