what condition is to be satisfied by X Ω resistor is not known from the posted question.
I assume this circuit is balanced wheatstone bridge and we need same potenial at B and D
In fig.(2), given citcuit is simplified by replacing the parallel combination with equivalent resistance.
Let Y Ω be the equivalent resistance of parallel combination of X and 8 Ω .
For balanced wheatstone bridge,
( Resistance between A and D ) / Resistance between C and D ) = ( Resistance between A and B ) / Resistance between C and B )
18 / 6 = 21/ (3+Y) or Y = 4 Ω .
Hence Y = (8 X )/ (X+8) = 4 or X = 8 Ω
