European painters created a variety of images in India. These images were produced by photographers also. They took photographs of imperial officials and presented them as figures of authority and power. Others travelled around the country in search of ruined buildings and picturesque landscapes to capture in photographs. Still others recorded moments of British military triumphs and some recorded the cultural diversity of India with a view to depict it as a primitive society.
