To find: Identity element for the binary operation * defined as a*b=a+ab, where a and b are integers
Let e be the identity element of the set defined by the binary operation *
Therefore, a*e=a=e*a
Consider, a*e=e
a+ae=a
a(1+e)=a
1+e=1
Therefore, e=0
Now consider, e*a=a
e+ea=a
e(1+a)=a
e=a/(1+a)
Value of e is not equal for both the cases.
Hence, the identity does not exist.
