Question: Find the value of y in the point (4, y) such that its distance is 10 units from the point (-2, -1).
Solution:
As the distance of (4, y) from (-2, -1) is 10, we have

square root of open parentheses 4 plus 2 close parentheses squared plus open parentheses straight y plus 1 close parentheses squared end root equals 10 36 plus straight y squared plus 2 straight y plus 1 equals 100 straight y squared plus 2 straight y minus 63 equals 0 straight y squared plus 9 straight y minus 7 straight y minus 63 equals 0 open parentheses straight y plus 9 close parentheses open parentheses straight y minus 7 close parentheses equals 0 straight y equals negative 9 space space or space space straight y equals 7

Find points on y-axis (4 , y) that are 10 units from the point
( -2 , -1).
