The importance of the hydrosphere is as follows:

  1. Oceans are the main source of humidity and precipitation.
  2. They affect the climate of a place. The places located near the oceans experience a moderate climate while the places which are located in the interiors of the continents, far away from the oceans, experience an extreme climate.
  3. Oceans are the storehouse of minerals like petroleum etc.
  4. The oceans are also the storehouse of energy. The waves of the oceans can be used for the production of electricity.
  5. Oceans have been serving as a means of transport since ancient times.
  6. The hydrosphere provides humans, animals and plants with drinking water. Without rivers, lakes and ponds, the development of civilisation would probably not have taken place.
