Expert Answer
Following are three important factors that demonstrate the impact of the Home Rule Movement on the national movement in India:
- During the time of the First World War, the Congress had become weak due to internal fissures and the repression of the British government. Tilak and Annie Besant infused new life in the organisation through the Home Rule Leagues.
- The Home Rule Movement transformed the Indian national movement into a true mass movement. The nationalist propaganda was carried to even the villages and organisational links were established between the urban and rural parts of India. These were to prove very valuable in the later years of the nationalist struggle.
- The Home Rule Movement exerted a great deal of pressure on the British colonial government when the Congress and the Muslim League presented a common Charter of Demands.
