For growth – Any cell divides repeatedly to form a cluster of cells which shape up to form tissues and organs for different functions.

For replacement – There is always wear and tear of cells during the normal body functions.

The dead cells are replaced by new cells which are formed through the division of parent cells.

For repair – There may be accidental injuries such as cuts in the skin or fractures in the bones.

The dividing cells repair such faults by covering the gaps and joining the broken ends.

For reproduction – Here cell division takes place in the only in the reproductive cells.

The male and female cells then fuse to form a single celled zygote.
