Surface tension: The tendency of a every liquid to contract its surface and minimise the area is called surface tension.

Examples:

1) Soaps and detergents help in cleaniong clothes as they lower the surface tension of water. This water readily soaks in the pores of clothes and cleans them efficiently.

2) Small insects like water strider can walk on water as its weight is not enough to penetrate the surface tension of water.
