ABC is an isosceles triangle in which AB=AC=10 cm. ,BC=12 cm. PQRS is a rectangle inside the isosceles triangle. if PQ=SR=Ycm. and PS=QR=2X cm.,then prove that X=6-3Y/4.

since BC = 12 cm and QR = 2X cm, we have BQ = [ 12 - 2X ]/2 = (6-X) cm
 
since PS is parallel to BC, begin mathsize 12px style fraction numerator A P over denominator A B end fraction space equals space fraction numerator P S over denominator B C end fraction space equals space fraction numerator 2 X over denominator 12 end fraction space space space space o r space space A P space equals space X over 6 cross times 10 space space equals space fraction numerator 5 X over denominator 3 end fraction end style
Hence BP = [ 10 - (5X)/3 ]
 
In right angled triangle BPQ, we have,  Y2 = [ 10 - (5X)/3 ]2 - (6-X)2  = [ 10 - (5X)/3 + 6 - X ] [10 - (5X)/3 - 6 +X ]  ..............(1)
 
By simplifying the above expression (1), we get,  9Y2 = 16 (6-X)2    or   (3Y/4) = (6-X)    or  X = [ 6 - (3Y)/4 ]
