A drug is any substance other than food, which when inhaled, injected, smoked, consumed, absorbed via a patch on the skin or dissolved under the tongue causes a physiological as well as a behavioural change in the body.
Taking of drugs for the purpose other than clinical use in a concentration which impairs physical, physiological and psychological functions of the body is called drug abuse.
Causes of drug addiction:
- Genetic tendency
- Peer pressure
- Stress
- Experimentation
- Addictive personality
- Environment
