Expert Answer
rootx + y = 7 .... (i)
x + rooty = 11 .... (ii)
Let x = p2 and y = q2
p + q2 = 7 ...(iii)
→ p = 7 - q2
p2 + q = 11 ... (iv)
Substituting the value of p in (iv), we get
(7 - q2 )2+ q = 11
After simplification, we get
(q-2)(q3 + 2q2 - 10q - 19) = 0
→(q-2) = 0
→ q = 2
From (iii), we get
p =7 - 4 = 3'
→ x = p2 = 9 and y = q2 = 4
