If x+ y = 12 and xy =32 Find x² + y²

Expert Answer
(x + y)2 = x2 + y2 + 2xy
Therefore, x2 + y2 = (x + y)2 - 2xy
Therefore, x2 + y2 = (12)2 - 2(32) = 144 - 64 = 80
