There are measures which can be taken at a personal and community level to prevent the occurrence of a disease.
Public measures:
- Sewage and chemical wastes should not be released into water bodies.
- Sewage should be chemically treated first, before being released into water bodies.
- Garbage must be kept covered, otherwise flies breed on it.
- All drains must be covered.
- Do not allow water to stagnate near your house.
- Pipes carrying potable water should not be located near the sewage pipelines. In case of leakage, the waters get mixed and contaminated.
Personal measures:
- Eat balanced diet.
- Include seasonal fruits and vegetables in your diet.
- Cook the food properly.
- Wash the vegetables and the fruits before eating.
- Avoid too much frying of vegetables. It reduces their nutritional value.
