During interphase, the cell prepares itself for cell division by undergoing cell growth and DNA replication. Actual cell division does not take place during interphase. Hence, interphase is often regarded as resting phase. However, interphase is actually an active phase in cell cycle because in this phase, the cell doubles its protoplasm, produces some proteins like histones for converting chormatids into chromosomes. DNA replication and centrosome division also takes place during this phase.
