answered-by-expert Expert Answer
When water is heated from 0°C to 4°C, it begins to shrink and take up less space. This means that at 4°C, the same amount of water weighs more than at 0°C because it takes up less space.
This is why we say that water has the greatest density at 4°C and use this temperature to define relative density.
