Primary production is the synthesis of organic compounds from atmospheric carbon dioxide. It occurs through the process of photosynthesis which uses light as its source of energy. Organisms which are responsible for primary production are known as primary producers and form the base of food chain.
Due to above reasons, forests are known as primary producers.
