Vegetative propagation is a method of asexual reproduction seen in plants where parts like the root, stem and leaves develop into new plants under appropriate conditions. This method does not involve a recombination of genetic material. Plants raised by vegetative propagation can bear flowers and fruits earlier than those produced from seeds. Also, all plants produced by this method are genetically similar to the parent plant.

It is both a natural process in many plant species and one utilized or encouraged by horticulturists to obtain quantities of economically valuable plants.
