ICSE Class 10 Answered
What is the function of sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system?
Asked by saradamahapatra9999 | 25 Feb, 2019, 12:47: PM
Functions of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system:
- The sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions typically function in an opposite manner, with one division exciting, triggering, or activating a response that is countered by the alternate system, which serves to relax, decrease, or negatively modulate a process.
- The sympathetic division typically functions in actions requiring quick responses. The parasympathetic division functions with actions that do not require immediate reaction.
- The sympathetic division initiates the fight-or-flight response and the parasympathetic initiates the rest-and-digest or feed-and-breed responses.
- The sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems are important for regulating several vital functions, including respiration and cardiac contractility.
