Dear Student,

The ozone is a clear, blue gas with a sharp smell. The ozone layer in the upper atmosphere protects the living organisms from UV rays of the sun by absorbing nearly all of them.

The ozone formed in the lower atmosphere by photochemical reaction as a result of human activity is harmful. At low concentrations, it produces chest pain, coughing and often eye irritation. High concentrations can kill both animals and plants.
