Potassium hydroxide (KOH) is one of the important chemicals required in an experiment to prove that carbon dioxide and heat are produced in anaerobic respiration. Mercury is used as the indicator of conducted respiration.

A respirometer is the apparatus used to conduct anaerobic respiration. A glass tube for KOH and a beaker for mercury are the apparatus used in the experiment.
