Two large glass plate are placed vertically and parallel to each other inside a tank of water with separation between the plate is equals to 1 mm .Find the rise of water in the space between the plates surface tension of water equals 0.075 Nm^-1

Surface tension force is acting along the length l on both the plates.

Hence surface tension force = T × 2 l

surface tension force is balanced by weight of liquid column,  l×h×d×ρ

where h is rise of water column, d is distance between plates and ρ is density

Hence we have,  T × 2 l = l×h×d×ρ×g

h = 2T / ( d×ρ×g )  = ( 2 × 0.075 ) / ( 1 × 10-3 × 1000×9.8 ) = 0.0153 m  ≈ 15 mm
