The equation of a circle with centre at (x1, y1) and radius equal to r is (x - x1)2 + (y - y1)2 = r2.

When the circle touches both x-axis and y-axis i.e., x1 = y1 = r.

Then the equation  (x - r)2+ (y - r)2 = r2

⇒ x2 + y2 - 2rx - 2ry + r2 = 0
