Equation for displacement x of particle undergoing SHM is given by,  x = 3 cos[ (π/2) t ] cm

From above eqn., we get amplitude A = 3 cm and Time period T is given by ,  (2π/T)t = π/2) t or T = 4 s

Distance travelled in T = 8.5 s equals distance of two full cycles i.e., (2×12) cm and distance travelled in 0.5 s

distance travelled in 0.5 s,  x= 3 cos(π/4) = 3/√2

Hence the total distance travelled in 8.5 s = 24 + ( 3/√2 ) cm
