Yes, territories seized by the Marathas witnessed development during their rule. This was because of the following facts:

1. After conquering the territory, the Marathas introduced new revenue rates suiting the local agricultural conditions.

2. Agriculture was encouraged and trade was revived.

3. As agriculture and trade developed, the Maratha chiefs such as the Bhonsles of Nagpur and Gaekwads of Baroda utilised the resources to raise large and powerful armies.

4. Cities such as Ujjain, Poona, Nagpur and Indore expanded and developed under the Marathas. They functioned as commercial and cultural centres.
