For refraction at spherical surface we have begin mathsize 12px style mu subscript 2 over v space minus space mu subscript 1 over u space equals space fraction numerator mu subscript 2 space minus space mu subscript 1 space over denominator R end fraction end style  .....................(1)
where μ2 is the refractive index of medium enclosed by spherical surface, μ1 is the refractive index of medium of incident light ray,
v is image distance from pole of spherical surface and u is the object distance of spherical surface.

hence we have  begin mathsize 12px style fraction numerator 1.5 over denominator v end fraction minus fraction numerator 1 over denominator negative 24 end fraction space equals space fraction numerator 0.5 over denominator 8 end fraction space equals space 1 over 16 end style   .....................(2)
from eqn.(2), we get v = 72 cm.

Since plane surface is at distance 24 cm from pole of the spherical surface, image is formed at 48 cm from plane surface
