CBSE Class 10 Answered

So water is in the form of H2O, and from the equation it is clear that concentration of hydrogen is more in water, since, thier are 2 atoms of hydrogen in a single molecule, my main question was, why water is not flammable? as liquid version of hydrogen is used as fuel in space shuttle, which is combined with oxygen, and in water, both are present.

Dear Student,

It is the basic characteristic of a compound that its properties are entirely different from its constituent elements.

Water is a compound made up of hydrogen and oxygen, where hydrogen is a highly inflammable gas and oxygen is a supporter of combustion but water is used to extinguish fire.

Compounds have different physical and chemical properties than the properties of the constituent atoms of elements from which they are formed.

During a chemical combination the product formed has totally different chemical properties and thus it fails to retain its original properties and same is the case of water as it has different properties from its constituents.
