The number of ways in which 52 cards can be divided into 3 packets of 17 cards each and 1 group of 1 card is
begin mathsize 16px style fraction numerator 52 factorial over denominator 17 factorial space 17 factorial space 17 factorial space 3 factorial space 1 factorial end fraction equals fraction numerator begin display style 52 factorial end style over denominator begin display style open parentheses 17 factorial close parentheses cubed space 3 factorial end style end fraction end style
As 3 packets of 17 cards each can be arranged by (17!)3
Also 3 groups can be arranged by 3! ways.
