Sir, please explain what is meant by Force exerted on wedge and how we got that equation, shown in the picture.

Figure shows the system of wedge of mass M and block of mass m.
Let F is the force applied to system so that whole system moves with acceleration a that is given by
F = (M+m)a ....................(1)
Free body diagram shows the resolved components of weight, one along the direction parallel to contact surface, i.e., ( mg sinθ )
and other one normal to contact surface i.e., ( mg cosθ )
Since block of mass m also moving with acceleration, force ma is also resolved into two components,
one along the direction parallel to contact surface i.e., ( ma cosθ ) and other one pependicular to contact surface ( ma sinθ) .
For the block not to slide, we should have, ma cosθ = mg sinθ or a = g tanθ .............(2)
from eqn.(1) and (2), minimum force F = (M+m) g tanθ
