Dear seeni2005@gmail.com
Thanks for asking us a question in Ask the Expert section of TopperLearning.com.
You can refer to the Revision Notes on our website to grasp the key points in this chapter.
Some of the key points are as follows:
- The nervous system is designed to bring about the coordination between different parts of the body.
- The central nervous system primarily includes the brain and the spinal cord.
- The cerebrum, cerebellum and medulla oblongata are the three primary regions of the brain.
- The brain is the main coordinating centre of the body.
- The spinal cord conducts sensory impulses from the skin and muscles to the brain.
- A neuron is the structural and functional unit of the nervous system.
- The neurons are specialised for conducting information through electrical impulses from one part of the body to another.
- A sudden action in response to the stimulus in the environment is called a reflex or reflex action.
- The path travelled by the impulse during a reflex action is called a reflex arc.
- The chemical control and coordination in animals is brought about by hormones secreted by the endocrine glands.
- Movements exhibited by plants are mainly in response to a stimulus.
- Auxins, gibberellins, cytokinins and abscisic acid are important hormones in plants.
Tips to study this chapter:
- Be through with all the important definitions.
- Practise drawing neat and well-labelled diagram of structure of neuron and brain.
- Revise the path for the conduction of a nerve impulse.
Regards
Topperlearning Team.
