Riya kept a piece of moist bread covered under a small bell jar in a warm place. After few days, she observed the growth of mould on it. Now, answer the following questions with reference to her observation. (a) Were spores of mould present in the bell jar? (b) What would happen, if moist bread was placed in the refrigerator?(c) What appears first on moist bread, mycelia or spores?

(a) Spores of mould were present in air. Therefore, they were present in the bell jar.
(b) If moist bread was placed in the refrigerator, mould spores would not have germinated. This is because spores need moist and warm conditions to germinate.
(c) On moist bread, the spores germinate first to form the mycelium.
