Ideas of national unity in early-nineteenth-century Europe were closely allied to the ideology of liberalism. Tt meant the following for the middle class in France:
(i) freedom for the individual and equality of all before law.
(ii) Emphasis on the concept of government by consent.
(iii) The end of autocracy and clerical privileges
(iv) Constitution and representative government through Parliament.
(v) Emphasized the inviolability of private property
