Expert Answer:

[(a-x)/(a+x)]1/2 = [(a-x)2/(a2-x2)]1/2

Put x = a siny and the limits x = -a then y = 3π/2, x = a then y = π/2

dx = a cosy dy

[(a - asiny)2/(a2-(a siny)2)]1/2

= (1 - siny)/cosy

dx [(a-x)/(a+x)]1/2 (1 - siny)a cosy dy /cosy = (a - a siny)dy

= ay + a cosy

Put the limits, cos term goes zero.

= a((π/2) - (3π/2)) + a(cosπ/2 - cos3π/2) = - a π
