Plz explain me how do we choose the final R for potential difference in final step

From the figure, it appears a voltage source of emf 48V with internal resistance 100Ω is connected to
two resistance of 100Ω which are in series.
One resistance 100Ω is fixed and other resistance 100Ω has an variable arm at Q so that
resistance between P and Q can be varied . At a given position of Q, resistance between P and Q is 20Ω .
current in the circuit = 48/(100+100+100) = 16×10-2 A
hence potential difference across P and Q = 16×10-2 × 20 = 3.2 V
