Fig.(1) shows steps to get Thevenin resistance. we need to open the current source and short the voltage source.
As shown in figure, Thevenin resistance is 6Ω
 
Fig.(2) shows the procedure to get Thevenin voltage.
 
By knowing the division of current at node marked as voltage point V1 ,
we get  i = ( 2 - io ) A  ...................(1)
 
Let the point b is at reference point and it can be assumed as zero potential
 
then V1 = 4 io  ........................(2)
 
V1-V2 = 10io + 2i   ...............................(3)
 
using eqn.(1) and eqn.(2),  eqn.(3) is rewritten as   4io - V2 = 10io + 2(2- io ) ...........................(3)
 
or Thevenins voltage V2 = -4(io + 1)
