Expert Answer
- IUPAC Name rules for ketones:
- In this system, the ketones are named as alkanones.
- The names of the members are obtained by replacing the terminal ‘e’ of the corresponding alkane by the suffix ‘one’.
- When two or more keto groups are present in the carbonyl compound then the terminal ‘e’ of corresponding alkane is retained and the positions of the keto groups on the parent chain are indicated by numbers with the numerical prefix di, tri, etc. before the suffix ‘one’.
