Figure shows the rise of liquid between plates.
Surface tension forces are acting tangentially with respect to curved surface at walls.
Net resultant surface tension force upward = 2 T cosθ × l
The above mentioned upward force is balanced by weight of the rised liquid between plates.
we have, m×g = l×d×h×ρ×g
Hence by balancing these two forces we get, 2 T cosθ × l = l×d×h×ρ×g ...............(1)
For water, angle of contact θ is zero
Hence, from eqn.(1), we get , h = 2 T / ( ρ×g×d ) .
