2(i)
4(2x + 1) = 3(x – 1) + 7
8x + 4 = 3x – 3 + 7
Shifting variable terms to left hand side and constants to right hand side
8x – 3x = – 3 + 7 – 4
5x = 7 – 7
5x = 0
Therefore, x = 0
3(i)
5y – 2{y – 3(y – 5)} = 6
5y – 2{y – 3y + 15} = 6
5y – 2{–2y + 15} = 6
5y + 4y – 30 = 6
9y – 30 = 6
9y = 6 + 30
9y = 36
Therefore, y = 4
