Lakshmi wanted to make a temporary shelter for her car by making a box like structure with tarpaulin to cover all four sides & top of her car. Assuming the stitching margins are negligible, how much tarpaulin would be required to make the shelter of height 2.5m, with base dimensions 4m*3m?

Expert Answer:
The tarpaulin required will be equal to the total surface area less the area of base.
Base area = 4x3 = 12 m2
Total surface area = 2(4x3 + 2.5x4 + 2.5x3) = 59 m2.
Tarpaulin required = 59 - 12 = 47 m2.
