Micropipettes are utilized in the laboratory to transfer small quantities of liquid, usually down to 0.1 uL.

Types of micropipettes:

  • Fixed volume: In which the volume of the liquid to be taken is fixed.
  • Variable pipette: In which the volume of the liquid to be taken can be varied depending on the requirement.

Uses of micropipette:

  • Used to dispense very minute quanitities of liquids in chemistry, biology, forensic, pharmaceutical, and drug discovery labs.
  • Useful for sterile microbiological culture transfers.
  • Used in transferring micro amounts of enzymes during DNA extraction.
