One sperm never enters the female reproductive system alone. Several thousands are introduced into the vagina, of which a few reach the fallopian tube and usually only one fertilises the egg, resulting in the formation of a zygote. Sometimes this zygote divides into 2 embryos, resulting in twins. The two embryos develop into fetuses sharing the same womb.
