Expert Answer
Dear Student,
A graduated cylinder is used to calculate the density of water.
An empty cylinder is weighed and its weight is noted down as ''m''.
Next, the required amount of water is filled in the cylinder.
Again, it is weighed with water taken in the cylinder and weight is noted down as ''m1''.
Now the difference between m and m1 would give us the mass of water.
Mass of water (M) = m1- m
Volume of water (V) can be found out from the marking on the cylinder.
It is observed that the volume of water is almost equal to its mass.
Hence, using the formula for density we get,
Ρ = M / V
where,
Ρ = density of water
M = mass of water obtained from experiment
V = Volume of water taken for experiment
