  • The potential energy is the energy stored in the body at a given position.
  • If the position of the particle changes with respect to forces acting on it, then the change in its potential energy will be equal to the amount of work done on the body by the force.
  • Forces whose work done is independent of the path of the process are called conservative forces.
  • As the force of gravity is a conservative force, the potential energy of a body arising out of this force is systematically called as the gravitational potential energy.
