Subsidy is a payment that a government makes to a producer to supplement the market price of a commodity. In the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) scheme, twenty five kilograms of food grains were made available to each eligible family at a subsidised rate of Rs. 2 per kg for wheat and Rs. 3 per kg for rice. It has been further expanded to two crore families covered under this scheme.
