  • The oceans are the main source of moisture in the atmosphere and therefore directly control the rainfall and temperature on the Earth.
  • They are the main source of food in the form of fish and other marine life forms.
  • Oceans are a store house of a variety of minerals.
  • They are used as a means of transport. Many commodities are exported and imported through the oceanic routes.
